Parallelogram
Community Center / Emergency Shelter
Tilted Quad-laterals
This project aims to relieve conflict between two neighborhoods by conceptual approach. We imagined a community center where visitors become actively engaged in interaction. In order to achieve our goal, we began experimenting by designing the whole building with tilted quad-laterals, transforming equal forces to be directional. With the train track behind the site, dynamic movement became the main key to our project. Main axis is focused on direct accessibility for Arverne community and secondary axis for Edgemere. This project’s purpose was to provide playful environment by tweaking conventional shapes into unfamiliar yet paralleled condition.
Rising Regionalism
New York’s most vulnerable people have been migrating in its most vulnerable place as Rockaway becomes affordable. Multiple conflicts occur between two area as different races of people migrate.
Flood Condition
Year 2020
Rockaway Beach is at a major risk of flooding over the next 30 years which implies flooding is likely to impact day-to-day life within the community.
Year 2040
